Sat. January 4 – 1 pm Dion / Rikert 5km Snowshoe Race
Part of a series, snowshoe racing puts a different spin on winter. Fast paced fun – use your own snowshoes or try a racing pair. For results click here.
Sat. January 11 Winter Trails Day
If you are new to winter sports, snowshoeing and cross country skiing are quick to learn and fun for all ages making them perfect for families and groups. A great way to get some exercise!
$5 rentals and free day pass for anyone who is new to snowshoeing or nordic skiing.

Frost Mountain Nordic Ski Club hosts its annual Bill Koch Youth Ski League Races at Rikert. Open to kids who want to see how much fun racing can be. For more information: www.frostmountainnordic.org

Mon. January 20 Middlebury Union High School Home Meet
Come and cheer our hometown high school kids. AM-Individual race, PM-Relay race. Spectators on foot free, skiers need a trail pass.
Sat. January 25 Rikert Fat Bike Roundup - 1 pm
The first season for Rikert and Snow or Fat Bikes – the staff can’t stay off of them! Join this fun filled afternoon with a Fat Bike Relay Trail Race, Obstacle Course Fun Ride. Trail Conditions by Mother Nature. Event Fee is $25. Fat Bikes – Demos – Cookout – T-shirts (limited to the first 50 entrants)

Sat. February 8 Nat’l Bank of Middlebury New Horizon Club Guided Tour
If you are a member of the National Bank of Middlebury ‘s New Horizon Club, you can join us for a great day of guided ski touring or snowshoeing through trails at Rikert. Skiing, soup, tea/coffee and a guided tour included at $25.00/person; Rentals available on site at an additional cost. See Misse Smith at the National Bank of Middlebury.
Sun. February 9 J2/Eastern High School Qualifier
The best high school racers and junior skiers compete for a chance to represent Vermont at the Eastern Championships here in March.
Sun. February 16 Romance Half Marathon Race and Tour
Bring your sweetie or just yourself and enjoy a 25K race and tour through the beautiful Green Mountains. Classic technique. Hot Blueberry Soup on the trail, awards, raffle prizes and great locally made food await at the end. Event benefits the VT Ski and Snowboard Museum.
Entry Fee: $35.00
Course: 3 – 8+km loops.
Start: in the Field, head out around Battell, First Loop, back into Field, Craigs Hill, Sheehan, Upper Craigs Hill, Figure 8, Cubeta Downhill, and back into Field. See Course Map.
9 – 10 am Registration * 10 am Tour Begins * 10:30 am Race Start * 12 pm Lunch with Raffle * 2 pm Party Ends
Sun. February 16 Ski and Ride for Hope
Come join us for a day of skiing, racing and raising money for HOPE (Helping Overcome Poverty’s Effects) at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl and Rikert. A great cause you can feel great about supporting. 9 am - 2 pm. For more information click here.
Thurs. February 20 Vt. High School State Championships
The best high school nordic skiers are racing at Rikert for all the bragging rights of the season. Come cheer the kids on!
- 10:30 am boys individual skate – 11:30 am girls individual skate - 2 pm boys skate relay - 3 pm girls skate relay
The best Division I Collegiate racers in the country will race at the Middlebury Carnival. Two day event on the Tormondsen Family Race Trail.
Please Note: Spectators/foot traffic free — Skiers need trail pass.
Sun. March 2 Bread Loaf Citizens’ Race
Join us for the Umpteenth running of the storied 5 K Bread Loaf Citizens’ Race. Vie for the traditional loaf of bread and other prizes. Costumes or spandex, barbecue and fun. Lollipop Race for youngsters.
- 10:00 Lollipop Race 5+under
- 11:00 5K race Diagonal+Skate, enter by age, technique – overall winners and age category
- $10.00/family, $5.00/person
- followed by barbecue
Fri. – Sun. March 7 – 9 J2 Championships
The J2 Championship is one of the highlights of the season for junior athletes. Each New England State and New York can qualify their fastest twenty 14-15 year old boys and girls. Four races over 2 1/2 days.
